【ももやの3つの特徴】
それは、”日常が非日常な”今井町の町家群を体感できる茶屋です

具体的には、
①築50年以上の昭和の古家ゆえ、2階のワイドで風が抜ける4つの腰窓とテラスの掃き出し窓から約500年の歴史（室町時代）がある今井町の町家群の屋根や竈（かまど）使用時の「煙り出し」（下の写真）、そして町のシンボルである樹齢420年以上のエノキや飛鳥川に架かる蘇武橋が見える。

②西側のテラスからは遠く二上山の南側が臨め、300年以上ほとんど変わらない今井町の家裏や坪庭を展望でき、さえぎる建造物がないため、いつも自然と風を感じることができる。

③人の行き来が多い北尊坊通りの最初の角地に位置し、吉野の杉やヒノキやけやきをふんだんに使しリノベーションした客間から、”非日常な”江戸時代や明治時代の歴史的建造物に普通に暮らしている今井町の”日常”の住民の生活を感じることができる。

【ももやの１つの誓い】
・大和（現奈良県）は”日本の始まり”であり、歴史的なものや素敵な農産物や関連商品が多く、それらを訪問されるお客様にお土産として廉価に紹介できる”公共の場”になります。

今井町の公共案内標識標が下の写真のように、「ももや」の私有地内の角に埋め込まれています。これは、お屋敷が分割された時、土地と建物が行政に寄付され、その後地域住民に払い下げられたわけですが、いわば公的な土地柄ゆえ、当時の住民が許して設置したものと推測されます。

「ももや」の成り立ちからしてある公共性は今後も大切にしていこうと考えています。

【3 features of ”Momoya”】
Momoya, which literally means a tea house named “peach”, is “the third place” where you can experience the unusual and unequaled qualities in daily life of the five-hundred-year-old Imaicho Town in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture.

There are 3 features what makes “Momoya” special and unprecedented.
① You can enjoy the unique historical townscape since this old house, which has 4 wide windows and one more off the terrace on the second floor, has been here more than 50 years. Especially, you will see Japanese Middle Age styled roofs and a chimney called “Kemuri-dashi” built during the Muromachi Period(1336-1573). You will also see a 420-years-old hackberry tree and the Sobu Bridge on the Asuka River which are iconic symbols of Imaicho town.
② From the west terrace you can see Mt. Nijo, the landscape of old town and the small garden of the neighbor which have not changed for over 200 years. From here, you can enjoy a nice breeze anytime since there are no tall buildings blocking it.
③ This renovated tea house with cedar, Japanese cypress and zelkova planted on Yoshino forest gives you the opportunity to see the mixed landscape of extraordinary historical building from Edo period（1603-1868）and ordinary life in Imaicho Town since it is at the first corner of Kita-Son-Bo street which is one of the busiest street.

【The credo of “Momoya”】
There is a landmark on the Momoya property as pictured above as a map on the sidewalk. The “Oyashiki” (an old mansions) that stood here were divided up and donated to the local government and then later sold to local citizens. The landmark shows how history of the area. We think it suggests us that we have the role to convey the message of Imaicho’s sustainable history to visitors and sell agricultural and historical products at a reasonable price which you can find in our local gift space.
